Glossary of Terms

Armed:  The alarm system is armed when it is activated by entering a special code on the keypad or by a special key in the key switch.  Arming your alarm syatem activates detection of an unauthorized entry.

Cancel Code:  The input of the user's access number inot the keypad which turns off the local siren and sends a cancel code to the monitoring station.  This lets the customer service representative know that no futher action is required.  The station will know an authorized user is at the premises and will therefore not call you.

Disarmed: When the alarm system is deactivated by the entry of a special code on the keypad or by a special key in the key switch.  Disarming a system normally deactivates detection of authorized entry.

Trapping Device:  Detectors such as door contacts, windows contacts, glass break detectors, motion detectors, pressure sensitive mats, etc., which are used to detect unauthorized entry inot a premise or room while the alarm system is in the armed condition.

Intrusion: Type of alarm activated by a trapping device while the alarm system is armed.

Duress: Type of alarm activated by entering a special code on the keypad when a user disarms the alarm system under "force".  This alarm will be sent to the monitoring station.

Panic:  Type of alarm activated by pressing a special button.  This alarm will be sent to the monitoring station wheather the alarm syatem is armed or disarmed.

Fire: Type of alarm activated by automatic fire detectors such as smoke alarms or manual fire pull stations.  This alarm will be sent to the monitoring station wheather the alarm system is armed or disarmed.

Medical: Type of alarm acitvated by pressing a medical alert button or special pendant.  This alarm will be sent to the monitoring station wheather the alarm is armed or disarmed.

Supervisory:  Type of alarm activated by devices such as low temperature and water level sensors, etc.  This alarm will be sent to the monitoring center wheather the alarm system is armed or disarmed.

Zones: The sub-division of alarm input devices in a premise into groups i.e. Intrusion, Fire, Medical, Supervisory, etc. major groups may be further sub-divided into additional zones to identify locations of alarm input i.e. Frount Door, Back Door, Front Hallway, etc.

Dispatch: Action taken by the monitoring station when police/fire or other agencies are notified to respond to a premises as a result of an alarm.

False Alarm: Receipt of an alarm conditions at the monitoring station that does not require dispatch.

False Dispatch: Receipt of an alarm condition at the monitoring station where the police/fire or other agency is notified to respond to a premise as a result of an alarm that is false.
